Great Symphony Conductors and Leaders
Itay Talgam takes an interesting look at the various qualities of leaders illustrated through the work of some of the great symphony conductors.
The Qualities of Leaders
He illustrates, among others how leaders take command. Commanding as a leadership quality is however something that is used only when necessary and he also illustrates how it can work against you when you use commanding as a leadership trait to often or too harshly.
Itay also highlights how leaders allow events to follow their own course but still keep it to a specific set of rules, leaving room for creativity and innovation.
Another important point he highlights is the fact that although leaders have a measure of authority, it is important to make people partners in achieving the goals or vision set out.
What Can We Learn More as Leaders?
This video is an interesting unorthodox look at leadership. However the way that Itay presents the various styles of conducting holds valuable lessons for leaders in practicing leadership everyday. I highlighted a few of the leadership qualities that stood out for me, but I would like like to hear if you could identify more leadership qualities illustrated in this video.
